Onion Lamp
The Product The Specs
1977 masterpiece from a Danish legend. Easy to maintain iron construction. Ceiling lamp that would be perfect for a kitchen or living room. About the Verner Panton Onion Pendant Lamp The multiple curved pleats and overlapping shell of Verner Panton's Onion Lamp give the impression of delicacy and lightness. But Panton's lamp, like all his designs, was built to be tough and long-lasting. Originally only available in Japan, this completely incomparable piece of lighting design can now be bought in a high-quality VOGA reproduction that follows Panton's eccentric asymmetrical design exactly. The sculpted 'onion' layers are a beautiful feature, but they also work as reflectors, subtly spreading light over the lamp's minimal finish and whatever space you need covered. The story behind the Verner Panton Onion Pendant Lamp The reasoning behind naming this lamp the onion, is obvious. But what is not so clear is quite how unusual and exceptional the design for the lamp is. The tough iron fixture does not reflect the major ideas and innovations of Panton's design approach in the late 1970s. It is elegant and complex, rather than the simple and bold ideas we see in his other work from the period. The form of the lamp is actually influenced by Panton's work with textiles and his 'wave' designs from 1969. It is a true original within a career of relentless originality.

1926-1998 (Denmark)

Verner Panton was the first architect to work with form and design using plastic as his main material. When he created the Panton chair, the world’s first single-form, injection-moulded chair, it was considered a revolutionary technique back in the 1960s. Throughout his life Panton created innovative designs that combined materials in unconventional ways and was greatly influenced by the impact of colour on his work . Verner Panton represents design without borders. Verner Panton’s vision: to create design using unconventional techniques.

"Choosing colours should not be a gamble. It should be a conscious decision. Colours have a meaning and a function."
